Transparency on Americans Job Act

Obama fails to address what Americans really need. His jobs plan sounds good, but it lacks any sort of true fix. Some will call it bullshit and nothing more. The  average American has to look at the bill and ask, “How does it help me“? Can any unemployed American look at this plan and determine that they have a strong possibility of gaining a job within 90 days? But Obama provides cushions for businesses and neglects the needs of the rest of America.

Obama addresses small businesses; he has claimed that they are an important facture of the American economy. He zeroes in on assisting small businesses by offering cuts and tax breaks. Many small businesses have underwent financial hardships because of the economy. The consumers just aren’t there. The proposed American Jobs Act seems to cater mostly to businesses, while offering them incentives to hire certain workers. i.e. veterans and  those that have been unemployed for more than six months. But many businesses have been undergoing a decline and severe cutbacks. Most are incapable of hiring new workers. So this credit is only suffice for those businesses who are capable of hiring new workers.

The plan has proposed a $1500 dollar credit for working families and possibly a reduction to a 4% interest rate on mortgages. This is what Americans stand to gain. If you are working, you may be eligible for a $1500 credit. And if you own a house, you may be able to reduce your interest rate to as low as 4%. And that's a big maybe. The fabric of America is truly the American worker, the lower and middle class workers. This proposed plan does not stimulate the pockets of the average American worker. It is a financial plea to businesses, to higher certain types of workers.

It is also a proposed idea to state governments who may want to initiate certain construction projects. But those projects are not always guaranteed. Not only are they not guaranteed, the infrastructure projects are simply temporary.

We have significant needs that the proposed Americans Job Act does not address. Contributors to our economic problems are the widening gap between rich and poor. The bottom 40% live under $22,000 a year. Millions of Americans have lost their homes due to predatory lending or job loss. Thirty-seven million Americans live below the poverty line and 3.5 million are homeless. Obama has proposed the hiring of construction workers, veterans and teachers. But we have a significant amount of unemployed factory and assembly line workers, data processors, administrators, technicians, computer programmers, computer networkers, insurance agents, real estate agents, mortgage brokers, appraisers, underwriters and security personnel , to name a few. Energy costs are too high and those who have faced cut offs, are unable to negotiate with their utility companies. Twelve million American children live in poverty and 1.3 million of those children are homeless. This is simply a fraction of what Americans are enduring, as a result of joblessness.

And at the end of the day, Politicians  including Obama, are out of touch with their own constituents and playing politics even in times of crisis.

  • 1,470 millionaires and billionaires paid zero taxes in 2009 while most people to struggle to make ends meet. A few most affluent citizens are getting tax breaks and tax loopholes that no one else gets. i.e. Warren Buffet pays less in taxes than his secretary; he made 46 million and his tax rate was 17.7%. 2. It truly is. Everything is fair game in our for-profit society. And that's unfortunate.

  3. Julene, thank you for sharing this, you have an amazing way of breaking everything down. It is so true that the hierarchical structure that we are within seems to be getting fatter at the bottom and smaller on the top. And while that may be true we are becoming a third rate nation, look who is still profiting.
As Americans we seem to be complacent, and that I think is the most damaging of all to our system.
    Love this!

  5. Thank you Nicole,
We only have to wonder where that complacency comes from. Because we were not like this as a child. Somewhere we took that shift. The complacency becomes a protective mechanism, a means to coping to what what we feel we can not change.
